Within days of Intel announcing it is expanding its chip plant in Israel, sources say it has bid $5.5B to acquire Israeli big data chipmaker Mellanox  —  U.S. chipmaker Intel has reportedly bid $5.5 billion to $6 billion in cash and stock to buy Israel-based Mellanox.
